The City is proud to announce that nominations are now open for Derby’s 2nd Annual Neighbor of the Year and Neighborhood of the Year awards. These programs highlight and recognize work being done by neighborhood leaders and residents.
The neighborhood award is based on new or ongoing projects or activities that create physical or social improvements to the neighborhood, build or enhance neighborhood cohesion, or improve the ability of a neighborhood organization to better serve its community.
The Neighbor of the Year is to recognize someone who goes the extra mile to make their neighborhood a better place, always shows up to help with neighborhood activities, or devotes time and talent in service to their neighbors, neighborhood and community.
Any resident-led neighborhood or Derby resident can be nominated for these awards.
A panel of judges will determine the winners, and each honoree will receive an award certificate. Their name will be added to a plaque in City Hall, they will be recognized at a City council meeting, and the Mayor and/or City Council member(s) will attend an event held by their neighborhood. Our 2021 honorees were Hamilton Estates Homeowners Association and Melvin Robinson.
Get started now nominating your neighbor or neighborhood! Any projects or activities carried out in 2021 or before Sept. 15, 2022 are eligible. Deadline for nominations is Sept. 30, 2022.
