The annual two-day Leadership Challenge Event is hosted by the Washburn University Leadership Institute. It is a unique inter-scholastic as well as inter-collegiate leadership competition which provides high school and college students an opportunity to participate in simulations of real-life experiences. The event challenges students to address a variety of problems and situations where the outcome of the simulation is dependent on the leadership decisions made throughout the course of the competition.
Volunteer roles include judges who evaluate the individual group interactions, paperwork from the teams or the team’s poster presentation. Role players, either on video or in person, interact with the participants during the simulation. Roles include store owners, KTCK reporter, head of maintenance, Metropolis and state government officials and several others. Leadership Institute students will take on the administrative and coordinator roles throughout the entire event.
The Leadership Challenge Event gives participating students as well as the Washburn University Leadership Institute the opportunity to connect with campus leaders and leaders in the Topeka community.
