ATTENTION Citizens of Argonia and surrounding areas:
Due to the extreme cold weather we will see within the next few days in our area, and the high demand for operational flow order (OFO), we are advising you to take precautions in order to avoid costly penalties to our city and our residents. By everyone helping to reduce the natural flow of gas, we can work together to keep the demand lower during this event.
Here are some tips and tricks to help conserve on your natural gas bills:
-Turn your thermostat down by 2-5 degrees (below 70 is best) and leave it at a consistent temperature at all times. Bundle up and/or add extra layers. Consider adding an extra blanket and/or comforter to beds.
-Turn OFF or lower heat temperatures in the garage or any other buildings outdoors that do NOT connect to any water lines.
-Turn OFF space heaters or gas fireplaces when you are not in that area of the home.
-Open cabinet doors where water pipes are housed on outside walls so ambient heat can keep the pipes from freezing.
-Seal up and insulate as much as possible. Open up the blinds when the sun is shining through. Run your washing machine on cold water if possible.
The City of Argonia staff and board wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
