Butler Baseball traveled to Coffeyville Wednesday to take on the Red Ravens in a mid-week nine inning game that had Butler fans anxiously gripping the edges of their seats, as the Grizzlies broke open a tied ballgame in the ninth inning claiming a 4-3 victory.
Butler opened the game with a run scored in the first inning that Coffeyville would tie up immediately in their half of the first inning. Coffeyville then took a two-run lead in the fourth inning that Butler would then match in the seventh inning. After a scoreless eighth inning, the Grizzlies and Red Ravens went into the ninth at a 3-3 tie. Butler was able to drive in one run on a hit by Brock Lummus that scored Micah Kobuszewski in the top of the inning and hold tight to that lead. Blake Werry would claim the save as he stranded both the tying and lead-taking runners on second and third in a nerve-wracking bottom of the ninth inning.
The Grizzly Baseball team claims their seventh win in a row, advancing to 15-9 over all this season and remaining 2-2 in conference. Butler will pick back up with conference action on Thursday at Cloud County for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. and will return to McDonald Stadium for the home half on the series with Cloud County on Saturday at 1 p.m.
