Butler traveled to Concordia, Kansas on Thursday for their first conference doubleheader in nearly two weeks. The Grizzlies dropped game one 3-1 before taking game two in a 5-1 victory.
Seven inning game one began as a battle of pitching ability as there were no hits for either team through the first two innings. Butler would break the batting silence plating the first run of the game as a Hayden Dyer single scored Josh Holmes. This would be the only run scored for the Grizzlies. The Thunderbirds of Cloud County would drive in one run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to claim the 5-1 victory.
Izack Tiger, the Grizzlies' ace will be given the loss moving his record to 3-4 this season. Tiger threw five and two thirds' innings giving up three runs on six hits with ten strikeouts while facing 24 batters.
Butler batters turned things around in game two as they scored five runs on twelve hits with one error. Cloud County scored first, plating one run in the first inning and held the lead until Butler scored two in the fourth, taking a lead they would never relinquish. Butler brought in another run in the seventh, and two more runs in the eighth to take the 5-1 win over the Thunderbirds.
Caden Kickhaefer will claim the win for the Grizzlies after his seven innings of work, advancing his record to an impressive 5-0.
Butler Baseball with take on Cloud County again this Saturday at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado to finish up the series. After the Thursday split the Grizzly record becomes 16-10 overall and 3-3 in conference.
