After a great performance in the circle last week, Butler Softball's Allyson Montgomery has been named the Jayhawk Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Montgomery, the Grizzlies sophomore pitcher from Goddard, Kansas had an impressive game of action for the Butler Softball team in their doubleheader with Barton Community College on the road. Montgomery started game one for the Grizzlies, which was her only appearance this week given the Grizzlies slim schedule. She pitched a complete seven inning game for the Grizzlies, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out an impressive 17 Cougar batters in the Grizzlies 5-2 victory. Allyson has been the Grizzlies' ace through the first 22 games of the season, as she leads the Grizzly pitching staff in wins (8), total strikeouts (77), innings pitched (60), and has a team best ERA of 3.15. Montgomery leads the KJCCC in strikeouts and sits in second place in both wins and ERA.
Montgomery is the first Grizzly pitcher to earn pitcher of the week honors this season and is the second Butler Softball player to win a conference award this season, joining Briona Woods.
